StingX2's Gaming Madness

Achievement Unlocked?

April 30th

No I’m not playing Chrono Trigger, I have been listening to the soundtrack and the memories came flooding back. How come this series hasn’t recieved a third, or how come the original (or psx version due to Nintendo’s claim) hasn’t been ported over to the DS or XBLA or PSN (ew at last one).

Also that image is from the unofficial fan remake of Chrono Trigger that Squeenix stomped their foot on. You can see what they did here: http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/

Oh wordpress you card! I write an entry this morning and it somehow has never existed by your count! So I’ll write something else!

So what did I do today? Well I spent 4 hours trapped in hell. Hell you ask? Well aside from the fact I am in New Jersey I spent 4 hours doing co-op mode in N+. While it was fun some levels like this one that looks like a medicine bottle are probably some of the most evil gaming levels ever. I still don’t understand why 4 player cooperative has the host do a whole part of the level himself, and the other 3 players do the other half. Wouldn’t 2 and 2 make a lot more sense?

Spider-Man 3 has collectables, any game with collectables becomes absoulete torture when you reach the last few to find. Even if its like this game’s case where you need of each kind of token. I spent a lot of my day swinging around looking for skyscraper tokens to reach a days end of 27 having searched every spot they are supposed to be in.

Yes I used maps and still couldn’t get them all. They aren’t hidden simply on top of the building they are supposed to be at but in little crevices. They also blend in and if you use spider-sense (2 words or 1?) they faintly have a glow but its hardly noticeable.

I also spent my time swinging around New York and doing a few photograph missions. They are decent enough in comparsion to the broken combat tours with gang members carrying Thor’s hammer or at least they might as well.

Ok I played for an hour on each game I got today and here are my impressions.

Spider-Man 3
-Combat reminds me of Devil May Cry on speed
-The challenges are as frustrating and horrid as ever, sky diving is the new addition and its atrocious
-Voice acting is fine, Bruce Campbell is a genius again
-Mary Jane Thriller missions involve swinging low/high/fast and collecting hearts while getting to random markers

Verdict:So far the game seems a lot weaker than the 2nd in everything except graphics. If you just want to swing around the city which I eventually just gave in and only did your set as its fun and the game is beautiful

Lego Star Wars 2
-Something calming to it smashing the levels apart
-Beating each level without dying is horrible
-Focuses a lot on replaying levels

Verdict:If you just want to play through it, its fun silly and easy. If you want to collect everything it won’t be that bad as the game is enjoyable. If you want those don’t die achievements find some rabbit feet or something.

Things I Learned from Banjo Kazooie

Crapping eggs seems to fix every problem I’ve come into contact with. Flowers need to grow? No problem! Bucket has a hole? FIXED!

3pm Mad Monster Mansion cleared, bonus retarded Banjo?

3:40Pm Rusty Bucket Bay, I am told I will loathe this level and want to quit the game here. Sounds fun.

Who likes achievements? I DO I DO!!! I went back to the scrapyard in Half Life 2’s Black Mesa East chapter for this achievement.

Blast from the Past 10G
Find the HEV Suit Charger faceplate in Eli’s scrapyard.

I love the gravity gun, seriously its easily my favorite weapon aside from the colt six action army, or at least I think thats what its called thanks to Revolver Ocelot.

That.

Other than that I’ve been dabbing in more Yu-Gi-Oh Nightmare Troubadour.

#806 The World Ends With You NDS

#806 The World Ends With You [NDS]
91st NDS game finished
38th game finished in 2008

Square-Enix can make good original games without having to stick Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest on it. World easily has the deepest story of any game in recent memory, and with a really addictive battle system its pretty much an unbeatable game.
That being said there is very little I can say about that great story since I can’t even imagine attempting to explain it without massive spoilers.
So let’s move on. The Controls are pretty much spot on, running takes some getting used to but by mid game I forgot I struggled early on. The music is perfect and so is the art style. Yeah you get a Kingdom Hearts vibe from it, but who says thats a bad thing?
Its one horrible feature is a mini game called Tin Pin Slammer. It doesn’t subtract from the game really at all as you move on every time you are forced to play it.
The World Ends with You may turn off some people for looking like a hip hop rpg, well those people are missing out on something gamers will look back to when we move onto the next portable machine.

I give it a 98.3%

April 25th

I’m coming into the last leg of The World Ends With You, there are just so many spoilers I can’t say anything but its from the Kingdom Hearts team so it feels much like a spinoff of it in a real world atmosphere. And the battle mode is pretty intense and at times very unforgiving.

(On the left:Beat, on the Right:Neku the main character)

Other than that Yu-Gi-Oh Nightmare Troubadour has gotten some playtime, I felt in that kind of mood. I’ve reclaimed my tournament prize, befriended Joey (adding on to Yugi, Tea, and Mokuba), and have begun the Expert Tournament which has the confusing instructions of ‘be a high level’. I’m level 10, is that enough mr kaiba sir??

#805 Spyro the Dragon [PS1]

#805 Spyro the Dragon [PS1]
27th PS1 game finished
37th game finished in 2008

Having never played this till last year I was completely shocked the Spyro series was once…good. While far from perfect its a fun title that shouldn’t take anyone too long to complete. It holds up graphically in aging unlike some PS1 titles, yea its not mind blowing but its not eye bleeding.
If I have to gripe I’d go with the final boss being an annoying chase, it was easy as hell but still annoying. I give the game an 87.2%

That brings my backlog down to a small 102 games x.x

Half Dead and Half Alive yesterday I started playing Persona 3 FES. I still have a lot of questions from the first few days, but the anime sequences work so well in this title. I’ve only briefly messed with the battle system and it seems fine, I stopped on my first visit to Tartarus.

The main character is your standard … protagnist although I did catch him saying Persona! He has a very emo look to him which probably should be standard if you shoot yourself in the head to summon demons.

The first character you meet is Yukari who is supposed to be your stereotypical popular girl who sucks at everything. in reality. So far she is terrified of pulling the trigger which almost led to us being killed.

The we have Junpei who is the class clown and probably the first character that a gamer will love or hate with no in between. Most of the info I have on him so far relates to school and not Head Shooting Time.

Then there is this stuck up purple-red haired girl who is on the student council. I haven’t seen her do anything but boss people around, she sucks so far.

Akihiko is this grey haired boxer, also haven’t used him as hes on the injured list but his voice actor + his actions make this guy awesome.

Shuji is the leader of the SEES which is short for something but its the GUN SHOOTING HEAD KILL DEMON SCHOOL CLUB. Why didn’t my school have this?

and then the mysterious Igor who is all kinds of awesome, he lives inthe demensions between Dreams and Reality. You signed some contract with him and thats the thing I want to know most, what is it?

1:25PM My take on Prey, “Sickness Simulator”. Its amazing how much this game abuses gravity in its gameplay, when Portal did it I never felt like throwing up. This game encourages it.

2:21PM And Gobi’s Valley is now complete jiggy wise, off to my childhood nemesis Mad Monster Mansion!

Making this quick as cold+fever=killing me.

I bought persona 3 fes, ordered spiderman 3 online for $15 new. My friend bought Guitar Hero 3, Bully, Fear and Saints Row so those are 4 games I could eventually borrow. Also three levels in Prey done, yay achievements.

Good times, bye *dies*
